Swadhistana Chakra

Perhaps the most used and at the same time neglected chakra or energy center of the body is Swadhistana, the sacral chakra. That is probably because of its association with sexuality which is, of course, the massive energy that not only drives it, but when sublimated to the higher centers, it power them too creating some of the most ecstatic spiritual experiences including the ultimate, Samadhi, which has been described by some as the feeling of making love to the universe. However the second chakra also means the energy to simply interact with those around us. Any social relationship, from the first childhood friend to being able to make an employer’s acquaintance, depend on the harmonious out flow and openness of this center.

And yet most often than not the only people who approach the sacral chakra in a spiritual sense that is in a direct and conscious sense, are those that wish to engage into such activities as have come to be related to Tantra and all its wonderful sexual techniques. Of course that is in no way meant to belittle their efforts to achieve enlightenment through what has always been a highly respected and appreciated path to enlightenment. It has been used by twin spirits heading for the same goal and by masters giving extraordinary lessons to extraordinary students. But there is much more to it and a harmonious second chakra should be the goal of any spiritual seeker especially since the rising of Kundalini can only be achieved through a harmoniously energized sacral chakra.

So in such situation as those where you do not wish or simply are not in a conjecture to also engage in sexual activities there are many ways of working with the energies of sacral chakra. A Tibetan singing bowl can be such a device because of the complex harmonics and resonances it employs. The out flowing nature of sound can be connected with Swadhistana. So when playing a singing bowl one should focus on the sound and the way it flows from the bowl and indeed from Swadhistana to flow and permeate the energy around. Because just as the energy of the bowl is flowing outwards on the vibrations of sound so is our energy flowing out on waves generated by the second chakra.

It is actually the way the energies generated by the sacral chakra are modulated and expanded that make the difference between the most charismatic of people and, on the other hand, the most annoying person you would never want anything to do. So, ironically, the way you are perceived has more to do with the way the second chakra is working then your spiritual evolvement. Of course the trick would not work with a true master but for the masses a somewhat powerful and harmonized sacral chakra will be the equivalent of truth and justice.

A second and higher technique involves focusing on the sound to notice that it is essentially differentiated in two sounds: a high pitch, pulsating sound which is the equivalent of the yin energies and a baser, continuous sound which stands for the yang energies. Meditation on these two sounds and allowing them to be part of your being results in a unification of both yin and yang to discover the androgynous nature of the being and transcending the lower levels of the sacral chakra.
