With Anahata chakra the Tibetan singing bowl comes in to its own and the effects of meditating with a singing bowl can be best felt when used in connection with this chakra. And while it is true that the concepts belong to two different schools of thought and meditation, it is none the less true that they refer to the same ultimate reality and thus the techniques themselves can be used. In fact Anahata is the predominant center for the entire Tibetan civilization, their most famous mantra, “Om mane padme om” unlocks its gates so the singing bowl, a beloved artifact of that civilization, will be best suited to activate Anahata chakra.
The thing to take in to consideration, when activating Anahata chakra, is that it is the heart chakra, the gate to the soul, and should not be confused with the European sense of romantic love. While it is true that even through the love a couple shares Anahata can be activated the love being touched through the activation of Anahata is the universal love, the one that beings like Jesus and Buddha show towards all mankind. Is a state of utter compassion towards all beings that springs from the understanding that all are one, everything is connected to anything else in a mesh that envelops and transcends time. In this sense the love that Anahata chakra emanates is the transcendental unity with God in his ultimate manifestation as love.
When you begin a meditation remember that the first most important goal is to sit in position that is comfortable for your body. It would be best if you could stand in a meditation pose like Vajrasana which brings in not only the strong activation of Anahata chakra but it also activates Ajna chakra which adds a sense of superior understanding to the experience. However if you find that Vajrasana is uncomfortable you may want to just sit down on a chair or on a pillow. The aim of whatever position you choose is to make the body comfortable enough that you can forget its existence and can in this way focus on the way the singing bowl will activate Anahata chakra.
And as you start your meditation with the singing bowl you should focus on the wave of sounds as they become part of you and then as they seem to emanate from Anahata chakra as natural as they emanate from the bowl. Using that sound you can expand your awareness on its waves noticing how they are just as much a part of you as they are of the bowl. As you make this first connection you will notice that it is very easy to see how the sound, or in a more advanced practice, the energy emanating from the heart chakra is actually connected with everything around you from the rays of the sound to the ants running on the bark of a nearby tree, to the tree itself and the everyone and everything else. You will thus notice how you are a part of everything and everything is a part of you. A great sense of love arises from such awareness, because now you know that love is not a concept but an experience that unites us weather we are aware of its influence or not.
